American Gladiators?!

Yep, you heard right. NBC announced its casting call for the new American Gladiators. Apply here. Or for those who don't have the Gladiator in them, you can read about the revival instead: here. According to Variety, the revival will be more akin to the UK version of the original show, featuring a combination of fights and reality-tv-like fight training segments (where you "get to know the contestants' personalities" - oo boy).

Anyway, I have to give Erik credit for alerting me about this. In his words, "I've never even been TEMPTED to apply for a TV show until today." 'Nuff said.

In case you forget what American Gladiators is (although... really?), I've included a clip to refresh your memory. Enjoy.

That's awesome. It looks like I was training for the wrong thing earlier this summer.

This is the clip you NEED to watch to remind yourself of why this show is great:

The interview at the end is everything that was right about our childhood....

I especially like the "one and only" appearance of Bronco. (complete with mini-mullet)

...and one more thing...I don't think I'm being at all overconfident in stating that I would WRECK people in the Joust, Atlasphere, and Human Cannonball...Powerball and Breakthrough and Conquer might pose some difficulties because the Gladiators are so flipping huge. The eliminator would also be fun...it made me want to install a "commando line" in my yard.

Hey Erik, I would NOT want to have to face you in any of those events. I don't think you're being overconfident at all. You'd kick some serious Gladiator ass. Fill out that app! You know you want to. Just to see...

Haha! Did you read through that application??? Especially pages 6 and 7..."What are you afraid of or dislike?"....The Ocean, Drowning, and Lakes are 3 seperate choices.

And under "How much skill do you have at?" on P.7, wtf is "hand gliding"? "tempting opposite sex????" Is there a good choice there??? The scale is "never done it" in which case you're unattractive, "recreational" in which case you're a player, and "World Class" in which case you're a cocky asshole.

Hahaha omg. I think my 12-year-old cousin wrote this application. ;-)

I love that Being Bratty and Whitewater Rafting are measured in the same way on this application.

I know my ranking in Street Fighting would be "world class" (7).

I have to say, MY personal favorites in this application are numbers 42 and 43:

42) "In the lines below, write a short poem or rap."

43) "Draw a picture of yourself in the box below."

LOL
