Be Happy

Ryan and I were talking today about how all the bad news we've been reading is really bringing us down. We sorta wish there was a "Good News Friday" (Ryan's term), where all the news that was reported was positive. Well, no day but today, right? Here is a video for you, in honor of Good News Friday. Have you seen it?

It's a video of 200 people dancing in a Belgian train station to "Do Re Mi" from The Sound of Music. (The best part is when the song turns to hip-hop... very cool.) You can't help but leave this video happy. (I actually found it really touching.) I know it was a publicity stunt for a reality show to cast Maria, but it doesn't even matter at all.

Why do people love this video so much? Salon and HuffPo describe it best.

Salon: "They managed to punch right through my cynicism and show me that good things are still out there and there are good people in the world...In a small way, I have a deeper understanding of what it is to be human because of the actions of 200 fellow humans in a train station in Belgium."

HuffPo: "The producers chose the exact right song: one that harkens back to our childhoods, but also recalls Maria's unabashed upbeatness in the face of evil. We're in a global economic crisis, America's fighting two wars, there's genocide in Darfur, AIDs running rampant, and a pretty good shot that we could all be killed by bird flu in a year or two. We need this video."

So go forth and be happy on this beautiful sunny day. With jam and bread.

Hi Lisa!
It's Sharon. I can't remember where I even got this link but you're blog is great! I am sorry to hear that you (and Ryan) have been getting bad news lately. I hope all is well otherwise!!

Anyway, I just thought I should let you know that the above clip makes me want to go watch the Sound of Music ASAP. Why is Julie Andrews so cool? And how does she always sound so cheerful?
