Schadenfreude: n. Pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others.

Let's put it this way. I did not have a great March. I won't get into it, but the whole month was pretty crappy. I'm happy it's April. Good riddance to March. In addition, my friend Ryan has had a tough year. He wrote a great post about silent battles on his blog. You can read that post by clicking here. Needless to say, we do not derive pleasure from each others' misfortunes.

However. That does not mean we can't kick April off with a little schadenfreude directed elsewhere. There is a site that I found today called FML, or "F My Life." The tagline of the site is "My life sucks but I don't give a F***" It's basically people who write in and tell a crappy (but funny) thing that happened to them that day. Some examples:

"Today, my 8-year-old sister learned how to type her name into a phone using the number key-pad. I later found my phone on the kitchen counter with all my contacts under her name. FML"

"Today, I stopped by the gas station. As I was filling up I noticed a cute guy at the pump next to me. When I was done, I gave him a wink before opening my car door. It was locked. I had to call my Dad to bring my spare keys. The guy was laughing the whole time as I waited for my Dad to show up. FML"

"Today, I went with my girlfriend to the mall. We were looking at jewelery in Zales and she came across the engagement rings. She looks at one and says, "Are you kidding me? That ring is hideous and it's the most expensive one here! Who would buy that?" Well, that would be me. FML"

So if you're having a crappy day, or a crappy month, or a crappy year, check out It will make you feel better. And if it doesn't make you feel better, at least it will make you laugh. :)

If you're looking for the ultimate schadenfreude I recommend watching some American Idol. Nothing like mediocre talent televise nationally with a little sob story to back it up. :)
